Should ISHA support fully funding the Indiana Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education?

ISHA has followed with great interest the development of the Indiana Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education (CDHHE).

 

You can access the proposal CDHHE Transition Plan 2012 and more information about this transition process through the ISHA website.

 

ISHA encourages you to take time to read over this information and respond with your comments. Perhaps you were a member of the stakeholder group, if so we would love to hear your feedback. ISHA represents a diverse group of professionals and the development of the CDHHE touches many of us.

    I support the center. I feel it is an attempt to be as unbiased as possible while educating a child's family about two very different modes of communication. Both the manual and aural supporters are passionate about their perspective and this passion is what makes each mode successful.

    A Message from the Team at Outreach Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children:

    “As providers at Outreach Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, which is the current statewide resource for Deaf and hard of hearing children, we have experienced success in meeting the needs of individual children throughout the state, including those served at public schools, private schools, and early intervention settings. However, we have faced significant challenges in meeting such needs of more children than those referred, due to limited resources.

    As state employees, we cannot lobby for or against any piece of legislation; however, we are available to educate all stakeholders in the successes and challenges we face in the state of Indiana. We are looking forward to collaborating in the success of the future Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education.”
