Ethical Practices Team (EPT)

Indiana Speech-Language-Hearing Association

Topic: Addressing Procedures for Ethical Concerns

Two choices:

  1. Requests for information and advisement
  2. Complaints about or accusations against a member

You may request confidential advice or information from any member of the executive council regarding your concerns as they pertain to our association's code of ethics. If you wish to lodge a formal complaint or an accusation against a member, you must write the EPT and sign your complaint.

Steps Violation No Violation
1 Receipt of signed complaint against member  
2 Preliminary review by appropriate VP  
3 Additional review by appointed EPT Not appropriate for consideration by EPT; referred elsewhere**
4 Member advised of complaint; response requested. Member informed of precedents and policies.  
5 EPT review of evidence and response; additional informal investigation; violation confirmed; corrective action(s) recommended.  
6 Violation confirmed; corrective action(s) recommended. No violation or insufficient evidence of violation.
7

A. Member accepts advisement; corrective action undertaken;

B. Member rejects EPT finding and requests hearing;

C. Member receives advisement but violations continue

 
8 EPT reports findings and recommendations to Executive Council who may continue process  
**Possible referral sources for further assistance: Health Professions Bureau, Indiana Attorney General's Office, ASHA, Indiana Professional Standards Board (DOE), Medicare Fraud, attorneys specializing in Labor Law or other legal sources.
